Dearest Friends and Community:
We hope that you and your loved ones are healthy and safe. It is with great regret that we inform you that we are postponing Art is Power! SOMA Pilipinas’ 6th anniversary celebration that was scheduled for this Friday, April 22nd.
As you may have heard, the City and State has been cautioning communities to expect a COVID surge post-Easter and spring break holiday and travels. We also have immediate community members who have tested positive and been exposed or experiencing symptoms.
Out of an abundance of caution, and with specific concern for our elderly and immunocompromised community members, we have made the tough decision to postpone this event to a later date.
We were so excited to share with you the public art and urban design elements coming soon to SOMA Pilipinas! We apologize for any convenience this may have caused you. We ask for your patience and understanding as we navigate this current phase of the pandemic. We hope to reschedule for June 30th, 2022 and will be in touch as soon as that is confirmed. All registration will also be honored for the new date but please also let us know here if you would like to receive back your donation for the event.
We also encourage everyone to stay safe and healthy. Additional information can be found at the following links: California Department of Health and San Francisco Department of Health.
Call for Support for California Cultural Districts
While we are not able to come together and celebrate our public art initiatives this Friday, we can still raise our voices as a community to support funding for cultural arts institutions, community activities, and artists in SOMA Pilipinas and the California Cultural Districts Program.
Please click here to send a prepared message to your state representative to support the budget allocation for the California Cultural Districts program. (You may also edit and craft your own unique message as you see fit).
As you know, our Filipino Cultural Heritage District is one of 14 Cultural Districts designated by the California Arts Council in 2017. Unfortunately due to the pandemic, despite this important recognition, there have been very limited resources made available to our community through the California Cultural Districts Program.
Even if you don't live in the San Francisco area, you can still have your voice heard by clicking here.
Thank you!
