NURSE UNSEEN dir. by Michele Josue @ the Great Star theater 5/12 7:15 PM
Even though Filipino nurses make up only 4% of the U.S. nursing population, 31.5% of COVID-19 nurse deaths have been FIlipino. Nurse Unseen opens with this startling statistic before unfolding the colonial history of American occupation at the root of breeding the nurses of the world. Emmy award-winning filmmaker, Michele Josue (Matt Shepard is a Friend of Mine), documents powerful stories from nurses and their families who’ve risked their lives on the frontlines while facing a resurgence of anti-Asian hate. NURSE UNSEEN is a love letter honoring the history and humanity of Filipino nurses who have been the backbone of the American caretaking system.
May 12 is International Nurses’ Day so invite the favorite RNs in your life, and let them know they’re truly seen in the work they do. A special Q&A with Filmmaker Michele Josue will follow.
Filmmaker Michele Josue and other guests expected to attend for a post-screening Q&A.
